Graded Exams
Graded Exams are the backbone of my teaching as many students want to do them. I teach mainly ABRSM as this is a very Internationally recognised qualification but also use Trinity Guildhall if I feel that syllabus is a better fit with my student. With ABRSM I often hold exam sessions in my house so that my students can benefit from a very relaxed atmosphere and an instrument they are used to.
Playing for Fun
Don't feel you can't take lessons because you don't want to do exams. I enjoy teaching just for fun. Maybe you have a goal to play Fur Elise or Rachmaninof's Prelude in C# minor? Maybe Kitten on the Keys or Honky Tonk Train Blues is more your style? If you just want to learn because you've always wanted to then I'll relish the challenge of building a learning programme for you to achieve your goals.
Theory
With graded exams goes the need for theory. I include theory teaching as part of regular lesson planning but can run "Crash Courses" for any students needing, say, their grade 5 theory in a hurry so they can go on to the advanced grades.
